Client Success Stories
UPS Mailboxes Etc.
Lynn Anne Franklin had worked as a junior stylist and receptionist in a hair salon, a counter clerk in an accounting firm, one year as delivery driver for a Rentokil business, and one year at Gardner Merchant as a service agent performing cash handling, stock control and hygiene supervisor. Her most recent employment had been with Travelex in London City Airport working as a Team Leader & Assistant Manager.
Lynn and her family had been frequent visitors to Florida and like most visitors from the United Kingdom; they had enjoyed the year round sunny climate. Having worked in various jobs in the United Kingdom, Lynn felt that she could put her past experience to good use by investing in a business of her own in her favorite state. She carried out extensive research into viable investment opportunities in Florida and eventually decided to purchase an established UPS Mail Boxes Etc business in Orlando.
Since UPS Mailboxes Etc is a franchise, Lynn had to first get approval and because of her past managerial experience she was approved as a UPS Mailboxes Etc franchise business owner. She entered into an agreement for the purchase of a store located in Orlando, Florida.
The business had been established for eleven years so she had good historical records that allowed her to see how much revenue she could expect from the business. Since the store was located in a busy shopping center along with other businesses that use its shipping and mailing services, Lynn felt that with time and some innovative ideas she could increase her sales by adding crating and custom packaging, mailbox rental, rubber stamps, key cutting, business cards, photocopy and fax services. She applied for her E-2 visa and was approved in February 2004. Lynn and her husband Shane sold all their personal belongings in the United Kingdom and moved with their daughter Kyra Louise and son Kyle Anthony to Kissimmee near Orlando where they bought a house.
Lynn attended an eight day required training course at the franchisor main office in California. The course helped her prepare to take over as sole owner and manager of the UPS Mailboxes, Etc., business. Lynn says that her business has continued to grow since she took it over and she now has two full time employees assisting her. In the meantime her husband Shane, who is an electrician, applied for his Employment Authorization Document given to spouses of E-2 business owners and is now working for a large electrical contractor in the Orlando area. Ten year old Kyra Louise is attending public school where she has made many new friends and four year old Kyle Anthony is in day care close to Lynn’s store. They have all adjusted to the American lifestyle and are glad they took the big step and made their long awaited move to the great sunshine state of Florida.
